The McHenry County Department of Health continues to provide COVID-19 vaccines at its clinics in Crystal Lake and Woodstock – including second boosters to those now eligible.

The McHenry County health department advised that people who may be at higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19 – including those who are immunocompromised or older – are most likely to benefit from an additional booster dose of vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends a second booster shot for those 12 or older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised as well as those who are 50 years old or older and received an initial booster dose at least four months ago.

Only Moderna and Pfizer mRNA COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for use as a second booster dose.

All eligible adults, adolescents and children 5 and older are encouraged to be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, which includes getting an initial booster when eligible, the McHenry County Department of Health said in the release.

The McHenry County health department continues to provide COVID-19 vaccinations at its clinics in Crystal Lake, 100 N. Virginia St., and Woodstock, 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Annex A, on select days.

Walk-in vaccinations are welcome, but people are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance. COVID-19 vaccines also can be found by visiting Vaccines.gov.

Information about the updated recommendation is available at CDC.gov.
