Burlington Central edges McHenry in baseball pitchers’ duel

Two hits were enough for Burlington Central to pick up a 2-1 win in a pitchers’ duel against McHenry on Tuesday in Burlington.

Michael Person allowed only three hits and one unearned run for the Rockets in a complete-game win, outdueling McHenry starter Ricky Powell, who allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks.

Richmond-Burton 13, Harvard 0: At Richmond, the Rockets (8-0) recorded their fourth shutout of the season in a one-sided affair against the Hornets.

Connor Wallace earned the victory, allowing two hits and a hit batsman in five innings of shutout work.

Cary-Grove 12, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, Bobby Jannusch and John Crick teamed up to spin a one-hit shutout of the Whip-Purs in a one-sided Trojans win.

Jannusch threw four innings, allowing one hit and one walk and Crick finished up with a hitless fifth frame.

Toby Splitt doubled, tripled and drove in four to lead the offense and Jason Splitt was 3 for 3 with two RBIs in the win.

Crystal Lake Central 11, Crystal Lake South 11: At Crystal Lake, a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning forced a tie after eight innings between the Gators and Tigers.

Braydon Gibour doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Central offense.

Huntley 13, Prairie Ridge 5: At Crystal Lake, the Red Raiders (9-0, 2-0) snagged an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning and never surrendered it in an FVC road win over the Wolves (2-5, 0-2).

Ryan Kelly paced the Red Raiders’ offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with three RBIs, while Brayden Bakes doubled and drove in two.

Adam Guazzo earned the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits and striking out seven in four innings.

GIRLS SOCCER

Prairie Ridge 5, Crystal Lake Central 3: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves earned a win at home over Central thanks to a hat trick from Sam Gablenz.

Ellie King added one goal and three assists for Prairie Ridge in the win and Alexis Celintano also scored.

Cary-Grove 7, Crystal Lake South 0: Katie Jannusch scored two goals and assisted on two others in the Trojans’ shellacking of the Gators.

Kate Larry added two goals in the win and Lauren Passaglia, Natalie Warren and Alyssa Hamann scored one each.

McHenry 1, Huntley 0: Gracie Gasmann’s goal was all the Warriors needed in a shutout win over the Red Raiders.

Emerson Gasmann made 10 saves at keeper in the clean sheet win.

SOFTBALL

Huntley 7, St. Charles North 5: At St. Charles, the Red Raiders rallied for five runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings in a come-from-behind win on the road.

Briana Bower was 3 for 4 in the victory, Alex Kiriakopoulous was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Marley Reichen was 2 for 3 with two walks and two stolen bases.

BOYS TENNIS

Cary-Grove 5, Crystal Lake Central 2: At Cary, the Trojans improved to 9-0-1 overall and 2-0 in FVC play with a win at home over the Tigers.

Noah Marrano and Jacob Schaefer earned singles wins for the Trojans, while Sam Kedzior took one for the Tigers. Cary-Grove also won all but one of the doubles matches to preserve its unbeaten record.

McHenry 4, Dundee-Crown 3: At McHenry, the Warriors earned their first win of the season, beating the Chargers.

Nolan Carlson, Jack Waters and Gordy Wechselberger each won their singles matches for McHenry, while Finn Hamerl and Chris Schoder sealed things up with a 6-4, 6-2 win in no. 4 doubles.

Carmel 5, Marian Central 0: The Hurricanes failed to come away with anything in a loss to Carmel.

Grant 7, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks took four losses one forfeit in a 7-0 loss on the road.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Harvard 59, Richmond-Burton 21: At Harvard, the Hornets’ Audrey Baird took part in four firsts at they won their KRC dual meet.

Baird won the 100 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles, high jump and ran a leg of the 4x100 relay with Julia Chupich, Lizeth Flores and Brenna Uppleger.

The Rockets’ Lilly Alberts swept the 100, 200 and 400. R-B’s Amanda Allport won the 1,600 and 3,200, but the Hornets took everything else.

Nicole Garcia won the shot put and discus, while Christina Kolena (800), Abby Perkins (pole vault), Asha Billstrand (long jump) and Natalie Gutierrez (triple jump) each won one event.

Woodstock 88, Woodstock North 27: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks came out on top in a crosstown battle on the track.

For the Thunder, Bella Borta took first in the 100 high hurdles and Haley Drach won the 800 meter run.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

McHenry County College 7-6, Prairie State College 1-1: At Crystal Lake, the Scots picked up a pair of wins by shutting down Prairie State at the plate.

Morgann Paaske and Haley Barnes each earned wins, Sofia Tenuta homered, tripled and drove in five runs on the day, Lena Rogers homered and drove in two runs, and MAckenzie Scully tripled and drove in one.
