Elena Smith’s 1-hitter sends Prairie Ridge past Hampshire

Elena Smith was electric for Prairie Ridge on Tuesday at Hampshire, tossing a one-hit shutout in an 11-0 Wolves victory over the Whip-Purs.

Bella Crimaldi led the offense with four hits, including two triples and a home run, four runs and four RBIs in the rout, and Nichole Kiddy had four hits, three runs and four RBIs.

Carleigh Johnson singled, doubled and knocked in a run and Mary Myers added two hits, two runs and an RBI.

Crystal Lake South 15, Burlington Central 4 (6 inn.): At Burlington, the Gators brought the lumber with them on the road, piling up 15 runs on 13 hits in a one-sided win over the Rockets.

Kennedy Grippo was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and three driven in, Alexis Pupillo was 2 for 3 with a double, two walks, four runs and three RBIs and Molly Cook had two hits and three RBIs.

Brooke Kuffel earned the win, throwing six innings while allowing two earned on three hits and five walks. She struck out five in the victory.

Cary-Grove 15, Crystal Lake Central 5 (5 inn.): At Crystal Lake, the Trojans went off for 11 runs in the fifth inning to run away and hide from the Tigers in a road win.

The Trojans were led by pitcher Rebecca Weaver, who allowed five runs, one earned, on six hits and a pair of walks in a complete-game win. Emily Green led the offense early, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Weaver scored three times.

Gianna Carone was 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs for C-G, and Avery Bechler was 2 for 3 with two driven in.

Katie Svigelj took the loss for Central, allowing eight runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks.

BASEBALL

Alden-Hebron 13, Christian Liberty 3 (5 inn.): At Arlington Heights, Giants starter Justin Gritmacker allowed only two hits and struck out 10 in five innings while the offense exploded for 13 runs in support.

Gritmacker also went 1 for 3 with two steals, three runs and an RBI in the victory, Tyler Cunningham was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Thomas Webber doubled twice, stole a base and drove in three.

Cary-Grove 5, Crystal Lake South 4: At Crystal Lake, the Trojans recovered from a four-run second inning by the Gators to pick up a win on the road.

Dayton Murphy had two RBIs in the loss for South, and Jason Dabrowski had a pair of hits and scored once.

Marian Central 2, Round Lake 1: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to secure a comeback win at home over Round Lake.

Mason Schwallbach had a pair of hits and a walk in the win for the Hurricanes, and Brennan Carney was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Frank Lavin earned the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits and four walks while striking out 12.

GIRLS SOCCER

Crystal Lake Central 4, McHenry 1: At Crystal Lake, Sam Sander scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Tigers earned a win on senior night.

Maddie Anderson, Emma Bolanowski and Sadie Quinn added one goal each in the victory, and Liv Anderson had one assist.

Gracie Gasmann scored the lone goal for the Warriors in the loss.

Jacobs 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: At Algonquin, Golden Eagles keeper Lindsay Cepa earned a shutout at home.

Mia Kraft scored Jacobs’ first goal on an assist from Anita Lewis, and Emma Miller scored the second, assisted by Kraft.

Huntley 1, Burlington Central 1: At Huntley, the Rockets found the back of the net in the 78th minute to knot the score for good with the Red Raiders.

Annalise Zygowicz scored for Huntley, and Nova Rothlisberger made 11 saves.

WRESTLING

McHenry 46, Dundee-Crown 18: At McHenry the Warriors earned a comfortable win over the Chargers.

Jimmy Norris, Lucas Van Diepen, Pedro Jimenez, Dylan Drumheller, Ruben Melgarejo, Brody Hallin, Lucas Logan, Caleb Rezmer and Luis Anacleto notched victories for McHenry. The Warriors are 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the FVC.

Alec Rice, Amaire Jones, Matt Impastato, Porter Leith and Juan Jasso were winners for D-C.

North Boone 42, Richmond-Burton 36: At Richmond, the Rockets came up just short at home against North Boone.

Brody Rudkin and Isaac Jones earned wins at 132 and 145 pounds, respectively, for R-B.
