McHenry’s baseball team celebrated senior night Thursday by capturing a 13-2 win over visiting Johnsburg at Petersen Park in nonconference action.
Sophomore Cooper Cohn went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Warriors (17-15), who won in five innings. Eddie Synek singled, scored twice and drove in two runs for McHenry. Sophomore Lleyton Grubich earned the win, throwing all five innings, striking out eight, walking one and allowing four hits.
Evan Frasch doubled and drove in Johnsburg’s only two runs. He and Joey Hagen each had two hits for the Skyhawks.
SOFTBALL
Beecher 7, Marengo 4: At Beecher, the Indians dropped the nonconference game despite Jenna Turner going 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
Mia Lulinski and Amanda Trotz were both 2 for 4 for Marengo. Lulinski and Courtney Jasinski both doubled and drove in a run.
GIRLS SOCCER
McHenry, 1, Huntley 0: At McHenry, Sophie Gasmann scored off an assist from Ashley Wachter in the 65th minute to lift the Warriors in the FVC Tournament.
Emerson Gasmann made eight saves in earning the shutout.
Huntley fell to 5-7-2.
WRESTLING
Harvard 54, Woodstock 30: At Woodstock, the Hornets pulled out the KRC win.
Caleb Sciame (138), Alex Iversen (160) and Gavin Loiselle (285) all won by fall for Woodstock.
Buffalo Grove triangular: At Buffalo Grove, McHenry improved to 13-5 with a sweep in the nonconference triangular.
McHenry defeated Buffalo Grove, 49-28, as Pedro Jimemez (132), Ruben Melgarejo (152), Brody Hallin (160) and Nick Garantziotis (195) all won by pin.
McHenry beat Mundelein, 57-13, receiving six forfeits and a pin by Jimenez.
Hampshire 64, St. Charles North 9: At St. Charles North, the Whip-Purs won the nonconference dual, receiving five forfeits.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
East Suburban Catholic Conference meet: At Carmel in Mundelein, Marian Central freshman Mia Reiche and sophomore teammate Bella Zecchin finished first and second, respectively, in the long jump.
Marian Central also won the 400-meter relay for the third year in a row with seniors Molly Iden, Kat Strode and Dominique Thomas and sophomore Bella Zecchin.
