Crystal Lake South boys soccer team defeats Zion-Benton in Wauconda Tournament

Crystal Lake South won a contest of previously unbeaten boys soccer teams by taking down Zion-Benton, 4-1, Tuesday at the Wauconda Tournament.

Tomasz Slawek scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead the way for the Gators (3-0). Sam Bahnfleth and Nolan Getzinger also scored for South, and Chris Slawek made two saves.

Dundee-Crown 3, Hampshire 2: At Carpentersville, the Chargers dashed out to an early lead, then held on to pick up a victory at home over the Whip-Purs.

Israel Labrada scored twice in the first half to put D-C (4-0) ahead, then Adrian Ramirez scored the deciding goal in the second half.

Prairie Ridge 3, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, the Wolves took down the Grayslake North Knight Invitational’s host school to win the tournament championship.

Henry Knoll, Gabe Porter and Sam Kirk each scored once for Prairie Ridge. Brady Rogers, Cade Collins and Jake Pinkerton had one assist apiece, and Daniel Llanquiman made four saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Huntley 2, Prairie Ridge 0: At Huntley, the Red Raiders tamed the Wolves in two sets, 25-16, 28-26, in Fox Valley Conference play.

Lizzie Williams led the way with nine kills and seven digs for Huntley (4-0, 3-0 FVC), while Maggie Duyos set up 21 assists and Luma Acevedo added 16 digs.

Ansley Morlock had six kills, five digs and a block for the Wolves (1-3, 1-2) in the loss.

Burlington Central 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Burlington, the Rockets (3-1, 2-1 FVC) were dominant in a 25-8, 25-11 FVC win over the Chargers.

Emily Valencia had four digs and a kill in the loss for D-C (0-3, 0-3).

Crystal Lake Central 2, Cary-Grove 1: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers (1-2, 1-2 FVC) picked up their first win of the season in a back-and-forth win, 27-25, 20-25, 25-18, over Cary-Grove (1-2, 1-2).

McKenna Timmerman had 16 kills and 14 digs in the victory, Paige Keller had 19 assists and 10 digs, and Lauren Klutke added 18 digs, 14 assists and eight kills.

Grayslake North 2, Johnsburg 1: At Grayslake, the Skyhawks (2-7) started strong with a first-set victory but dropped the next two in a 23-25, 25-19, 25-12 loss.

Allie Burke had seven kills for Johnsburg, while Kiley Block and Gracie Notriano had 10 digs apiece.

GIRLS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central 5, Grayslake North 2: At Grayslake, the Tigers improved their record to 3-0 with a victory that saw them dominate in doubles competition.

Central won all four doubles matches in two sets, including wins from the teams of Olivia Johnson and Megan Rapisarda, Emma Grindstaff and Maggie Naughton, Grace Cullian and Annika Richard as well as Reese Schurter and Alexa Steinberg.

Lakes 4, Johnsburg 3: At Lake Villa, the Skyhawks came up just short.

Gracie Cittadino and Sarah Knutilla each picked up a singles win for Johnsburg, and the doubles team of Caitlin Flebbe and Emma Rung came out on top in a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 comeback win at No. 3 doubles.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Antioch 15, Richmond-Burton 84: At Spring Grove, the Rockets finished well behind Antioch’s pace in a dual matchup.

Antioch had the first seven individuals before R-B’s top runner, Oscar Bonilla, finished eighth with a time of 16:48.6. The winning time was Lucas Baronello’s 15:15.90.

Johnsburg triangular: At Johnsburg, Woodstock North came away with a win over Johnsburg and Marian Central by finishing with seven runners among the top 10.

Nathan Speciale took second place, Tommy Schroeder was third, Rocco Splendoria took fourth, and Daniel Jensen finished fifth to complete the Thunder’s qualifying score. North’s Michael Rank took sixth, Lucas Myshkowec finished seventh, and Ryan Nolan was 10th.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Antioch 18, Richmond-Burton 50: At Spring Grove, a strong third-place finish from Alexia Spatz wasn’t enough for the Rockets to keep things close.

Spatz finished the 3-mile course in 18:33 to lead R-B. The top time for the race came from Antioch’s Sarah Benes, who finished in 17:54.

BOYS GOLF

St. Patrick 175, Marian Central 188: At Turnberry, the Hurricanes came up a bit short and suffered a loss in Lakewood.

Declan Pivnicka led the Hurricanes by shooting a 44, Ethan Tom shot a 46, Owen Jager came in at 47 and Peter Louise rounded out the qualifying scores with a 51.

Richmond-Burton 173, Woodstock Co-op 179: At Twin Lakes, the Rockets improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in Kishwaukee River Conference play with a road victory.

Ryan Eskuri earned medalist honors with a 39, Jeff Lehn and Kenny Busch each shot 42 and Jacob Olson rounded out the Rockets’ scorers with a 50.

Frank Ferru led Woodstock co-op with a 42, Luke Trewyn shot 44, Brady Heeren shot 46 and Sam Berry came in at 47 strokes.

Huntley 157, Prairie Ridge 158: At Pinecrest, Huntley escaped by the skin of its proverbial teeth in a narrow, one-stroke victory.

Danny Sheedy led the Red Raiders with a team-best 38, Josh Good and Brendan Busky each shot 39 and Nathan Elm shot a 41 as the final qualifier in the narrow win.

Charlie Pettrone put up a medal-winning round of 36 for Prairie Ridge in the loss, Daniel Saville shot a 38, and Austin Klauser and Jake Friedman shot twin rounds of 42.

McHenry 174, Jacobs 174: At Randall Oaks, McHenry was declared the winner in dual action on the road over Jacobs after the meet went to the third-tiebreaker criterion.

Will Currie was the medalist in the win for the Warriors with a round of 40 and was joined in qualifying by teammates Sam Huff (42), Ethan Jensen (46) and Bodhi Bralick (46) – but it was Justin Link’s round of 51 that decided the dual as McHenry’s seventh-best score, which was lower than Jacobs’ seventh scorer and broke the tie.

Justin Cunningham and Jason Seaholm tied to lead the Golden Eagles with rounds of 41, while Barrett Rennell and Owen Ziaja also qualified with a pair of 46-stroke rounds.

Crystal Lake Central 149, Cary-Grove 175: At Foxford Hills, the Tigers rode an outstanding 2-under-par 34 from Bayden Hubacher to pick up a FVC win.

Tom Fornelli was tops for the Trojans in the loss with a 41, Maddux Tarasievich shot 43 and Erik Pietrzyk came in at 44.

GIRLS GOLF

Prairie Ridge 187, Marian Central 189: At Boone Creek, the Wolves came out on top in a close battle with the Hurricanes.

Elizabeth Tucker led the way for the Wolves with a medal-winning round of 38, Jenna Albanese shot 48, Ella Olas was close behind with a 49 and Brooke Benjamin rounded things out for Prairie Ridge with a 52.

Ella Notaro led the Hurricanes with a 41, Nina Notaro shot 46 and Jasmine Stevens and Ava Notaro each shot 51 in the loss.

McHenry 206, Marengo 242: At Marengo Ridge, the visiting Warriors were too much for Marengo to handle in a one-sided loss.
