Led by all-around champion Genevieve Herion, who won beam and was second on vault, Downers Grove co-op wrapped up its second state gymnastics title in three years on Saturday. Uneven bars champ Nora Terhaar’s winning mark helped Prairie Ridge edge Lincoln-Way co-op for second.
Marian Central's Brayden Teunissen and Jimmy Mastny each won their second straight IHSA individual state titles Saturday night while Richmond-Burton's Emmett Nelson won his first in Champaign, Ill. Four more area wrestlers finished runner-up.
Cary-Grove co-op's Kasparas Venslauskas qualified for state in four events and reset Barrington's pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday. Venslauskas, his Trojans' teammates and swimmers from Jacobs co-op and McHenry also advanced.
