Crystal Lake South’s varsity boys basketball team will miss its next four games as it has been quarantined for COVID-19.
The Gators (1-3) were supposed to play at McHenry (1-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, but that game was rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. South athletic director Jason Bott said that McHenry game will be first game back for South’s entire team.
The Gators will miss Saturday’s nonconference home game with Woodstock North, Tuesday’s Fox Valley Conference game at Crystal Lake Central and next Friday’s FVC home game with Cary-Grove. South will play at Central on Tuesday, March 2 and will host C-G on Thursday, March 4.
The statement from District 155 regarding the situation read as follows: “The boys basketball varsity game with McHenry High School has been rescheduled for February 28. In collaboration with the McHenry County Department of Health, several student-athletes on the (South) boys basketball team have been quarantined. Due to health privacy laws, we can not identify the positive COVID case. The health and safety of our student-athletes continue to be a top priority and D155 will continue to follow district protocols and local and state health guidelines.”
South lost to Grayslake Central, 53-52, last Saturday and Rams AD Brian Moe said their varsity team learned of a positive test on Tuesday. Moe said the Rams will miss their next five games and try to reschedule as many of those as possible.
Moe did not know if South’s quarantine was related to Grayslake Central’s positive test.
