McHenry County College has brought back one of its own to take over the men’s basketball program.

Rashim Lettsome, who played for the Scots in the 2005 and 2006 seasons, has been named the new men’s basketball head coach. Lettsome, a Waukegan High School graduate, takes over for Kelly Love, who had been with the program for nine seasons. Love was an assistant from 2013 through 2017, then was head coach the past four years.

Lettsome played for a Class AA regional and sectional championship team in high school. He earned All-Illinios Skyway Collgieate Conference honors in 2006 and still holds the MCC single-season assists record (202 in 2006).

After MCC, Lettsome played at NCAA Division III Dominican University in River Forest. He is Dominican’s career assist leader and ranks third in free-throw percentage.

Lettsome played basketball after college with the Lake County Stars and the Kenosha Ballers of the Independent Basketball Association. The Ballers won the league championship in 2016 and 2017 with Lettsome as team captain.

Lettsome returned to Dominican in 2017 as an assistant men’s basketball coach through this season.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rashim back to our Scot family,” MCC athletic director Karen Wiley said in a release. “He has already shown great enthusiasm and work ethic in developing our men’s basketball program to new levels. We anticipate great things ahead.”
