Nanos scored game-high 28 points in comeback OT win over Burlington Central

Why she was selected: Nanos, a junior guard, scored a game-high 28 points Jan. 7 in the Wolves' comeback win over Burlington Central in overtime. Prairie Ridge trailed 42-34 with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter when it went on an 10-2 run to force OT.

“She’s a bulldog,” Wolves coach Tim Taege said of Nanos, who hit a 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds left in regulation to tie the score.

For her performance, Nanos was selected as the Northwest Herald Athlete of the Week in an online vote. Richmond-Burton wrestler Colin Kraus, Huntley bowler player Matthew Fishman and Marian Central wrestler Vance Williams also were nominated.

Nanos answered a few questions from Northwest Herald sports editor Alex Kantecki.

What was the key to your team’s comeback win against Burlington Central?

Nanos: We all played with a lot of intensity and were playing tough defense. We never gave up, even when we were down by ten with a minute left, and that helped us secure the win.

What will you remember most about that game?

Nanos: I will remember Bella [Militelo’s] amazing take to the basket to get us down by only three at the end of the game. I will also remember my 3-pointer to tie it up and the celebration in the locker room after taking the “dub.”

What is a sport you are bad at?

Nanos: Golf is a really hard sport that I am not very good at.

What would be your dream job?

Nanos: My dream job would be anything where I would get to work with kids.

Who on your team makes you laugh the most?

Nanos: Marissa Taege makes me laugh the most. There is never a dull moment when we are together.

What is your favorite holiday?

Nanos: My favorite holiday is Christmas because my whole family gets together and celebrates.

Do you have any pregame rituals?

Nanos: I don’t have many, but I do enjoy listening to hype music with my team.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

Nanos: I love to go shopping with my friends and spend time with my family. I also enjoy playing tennis and pickleball.

What musical act would you most like to see in concert?

Nanos: I would love to see Megan Maroney or Riley Green in concert.

You just won a million dollars. What’s the first thing you would buy?

Nanos: I would probably buy some plane tickets for my friends and I to travel the world.
