A late surge by senior outside hitter Elissa Furlan wasn't enough as top-seeded Richmond-Burton staved off five match points before falling to No. 2 IC Catholic 25-21, 20-25, 27-25 in a Class 2A Marian Central Sectional semifinal on Tuesday.

Liz King had 15 kills and five aces, but she couldn't stop Libertyville from beating Hampshire 21-25, 25-15, 25-23 in a semifinal of the Class 4A McHenry Sectional on Tuesday night; Huntley defeated Mundelein 25-14, 25-17 in the other semifinal.
