Driver killed in Crystal Lake crash

An adult male driver was killed Monday in a single-vehicle crash in the area of Route 31 and Ray Street in Crystal Lake, officials said.

The crash happened at 7:24 a.m. when a 2009 silver Pontiac Vibe traveling south on Route 31 left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck an electrical pole, according to a news release.

The adult male driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the man’s identity.

A portion of Route 31 was briefly shut down while the Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Department worked on the scene, according to the release. The road has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Accident Investigation Team and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
