District 50's Harvard Community High School

A 14-year-old Harvard High School student was charged with aggravated battery after spraying a classmate with chemicals, police said.

About 10:45 a.m. Oct. 26, Harvard police responded to the high school for a student who had been sprayed with a disinfectant, according to a news release. The student was suffering from swelling and possible chemical burns in the neck and chest area as a result of coming in contact with the disinfectant.

After an investigation, police said they determined a fellow student had sprayed the chemical intentionally. The 14-year-old was arrested on one charge of aggravated battery.

The student was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center.

Harvard School District 50 Superintendent Corey Tafoya said the district was unable to comment on the incident.
