A 39-year-old Wonder Lake man faces 19 counts of possession of child pornography after his home was searched this week by members of the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
David M. Peters, of the 5100 block of Willow Drive, has been charged with eight counts of class 2 possession of child pornography and 11 counts of class 3 felony possession charges.
The search followed a November report by an electronic service provider to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children cyber tip line that a user possessed multiple files of child sexual abuse material, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The tip was provided to the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and then assigned to the local sheriff’s office in January.
The sheriff’s office, which is part of the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and U.S. Department of Homeland Security, executed a search warrant at Peters’ home in 5000 block of Willow Drive in Wonder Lake on Tuesday.
Class 2 felonies typically carry sentences of three to seven years. Class 3 felonies may have sentences of two to five years.
