21 Marian Central students named Illinois State Scholars

Marian Central Catholic High School saw 21 students designated Illinois State Scholars this year.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission, the state’s college access and financial aid agency, awards this designation to high school students annually, according to a news release. This year, more than 17,340 students were recognized statewide.

“This is a clear example of how the level of rigor the faculty provides, the perseverance and commitment of our students and their families through some of the most difficult times, and the focus that our school has on the whole student, encourage and support the achievements of all students at Marian Central,” Curriculum Director Debra Novy said in a statement. “I know I speak for the entire staff when I state how proud we are of these students.”

The students named Illinois State Scholars include: Christopher T. Atadero, Algonquin; Nandana Devarajan, Carpentersville; Matthew J. Garrelts, McHenry; Amanda R. Hintz, Lake in the Hills; Frank M. Lavin, Algonquin; Graciella L. Miroballi, Lake in the Hills; Brian Y. Pascente, Algonquin; Aila L. Reuter, Woodstock; William D. Stotz, Cary; Abigail R. Todd, Lakemoor; Julia F. Widhalm, McHenry; Krystiana D. Borres, Algonquin; Aiden B. Duck, Johnsburg; Chase A. Gattuso, Woodstock; Patrick M. Kumm, Lake in the Hills; Matthew T. Martin, Algonquin; Jack P. Newton, Bull Valley; Lilliana Plomero, Carpentersville; Emma R. Samonek, Cary; Olivia M. Striedl, Lake in the Hills; and Anika M. Tracy, Carpentersville.
