The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for correctional officers.
Applications and all required documents must be received by noon March 18, according to a news release. A physical agility test will take place March 26, and a written exam will follow April 2.
Applications for correctional officer and additional information can be found at www.mchenrysheriff.org or at the sheriff’s office correctional facility.
To qualify, applications must:
- be at least 21 years of age at the time of hiring;
- hold a high school diploma or GED;
- be a U.S. citizen;
- possess a valid driver’s license;
- possess or have the ability to obtain a firearm owner’s identification card upon employment; and
- live within McHenry County, any bordering counties in Illinois, or Kenosha and Walworth counties in Wisconsin within one year of hire.
No previous experience is required, and job training is provided upon hiring, according to a news release.
The starting pay rate is $56,966 annually. Employees also receive paid holidays and vacation, annual raises and sick time after a one-year probation period.
Medical, dental and life insurance also is offered by the county for employee and their dependents. Benefits are subject to change based on the union’s collective bargaining agreement.
Applications and all required documents can be mailed, faxed, emailed or picked up and returned in person to the correctional facility. The public entrance to the jail is located near the corner of North Seminary Avenue, which also is Route 47, and Ware Road in Woodstock.
