McHenry Ald. Vic Santi is now running as a write-in candidate for April’s election after a filing error kept him off the April ballot.
Santi failed to turn in a statement of economic interest by 5 p.m. Dec. 21 as required by city rules, according to Deputy City Clerk Monte Johnson.
Santi, who was first elected to City Council in 2005, said Thursday he is staying in the race for the seat he now holds representing McHenry’s First Ward.
“This definitely changes things, but I assure you, this is not the end of my re-election bid,” Santi said in a statement to the Northwest Herald. “I have experience and dedication to a ward I have loved living in 24 years. I am focused on the future and I am up for the challenge.”
Bobbi Baehne, who served a partial term representing the 4th Ward on the council before resigning in 2019 due to a move out of the ward, is also running for the position. She was certified for the ballot and has drawn the support of Mayor Wayne Jett, who is running for re-election unopposed so far.
Baehne declined to comment.
