Algonquin’s Trails of Woods Creek subdivision now selling units

A new single-family home development in Algonquin began selling units for people to move into in the fall.

The 279-unit Trails of Woods Creek, off Algonquin and Frank roads, held its grand opening Thursday. The subdivision will feature 14 kinds of home designs, starting at $293,990 to the high $400,000s, according to a news release.

The designs will have anywhere from two to six bedrooms, two to four baths, and two- to four-car garages. Unit sizes range from 1,683 to 2,263 square feet.

Developer Pulte Homes Illinois completed the models on-site, and now are seeking permits on individual homes to be built in coming months, said Jason Shallcross, the village of Algonquin’s director of community development.

Homebuyers can start moving into the units in September.

Construction on the development started in fall 2020.

“The infrastructure’s in place, so now they’re going to ease up on the earthwork, maybe do some final touches and whatnot on some engineering and some landscaping,” Shallcross said. “Now it’s time to actually start constructing the homes, so it’s open for business.”

Though there is a high demand for the units, Shallcross said, a shortage of supplies is affecting how much Pulte is able to produce right now.

Pulte currently is constructing about four homes a month and will gradually scale up to about a maximum of eight homes per month.

This is because of a lumber shortage caused by the closure of the Canadian and U.S. border, Shallcross said. Both countries agreed to close their borders to nonessential travel last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Associated Press.

“[Pulte] is constantly trying to work with their distributors and leverage their existing relationships, but it’s really just a byproduct of [COVID-19],” Shallcross said. “As we continue to come out of [COVID-19], hopefully, that’ll get better.”

Many of the homes will be around nature areas, open spaces, parks and ponds, according to the news release.

Village President Debby Sosine called the Trails of Woods Creek a wonderful addition to Algonquin.

“The conservation design of this project was a result of the great team effort of our village staff and the Pulte team to achieve a product that works well with the topography of the land,” Sosine said in a statement.

Part of this collaboration included restoring Woods Creek drainage to the natural state it was in before the original golf course development, as the Northwest Herald previously reported.
