Public information meeting scheduled Tuesday for potential Holiday Hills sewer project

Northern Moraine Wastewater Reclamation District can use grant, low-cost loan for financing

Northern Moraine Wastewater Reclamation District Superintendent Luke Markko opens a covered section in an aeration tank at the wastewater treatment plant on Thursday, April 22, 2021, in Island Lake. The district is attempting to build a sewer for the village of Holiday Hills.

A sewer operator serving Lakemoor, Island Lake and Port Barrington has a chance to expand its network of infrastructure into Holiday Hills and is holding a public information meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday for residents to ask questions and learn more about the potential project.

Holiday Hills residents do not have an option to connect to a sewer for their wastewater service, and some homes have had failing septic systems that pose environmental threats to the village, its surroundings and the Fox River.

But the Northern Moraine Wastewater Reclamation District has been tentatively approved to use a state grant to add Holiday Hills onto the district sewer system.

The meeting for residents to learn more about the possibility will be held with both virtual and in-person attendance offered. The meeting is at the Northern Moraine building at 113 Timber Trail and can be attended online at the following link: us02web.zoom.us/j/7578151340.
