Edgebrook Elementary School in McHenry last week received a $10,000 Technology Shopping Spree grant from the Meemic Foundation, a nonprofit created by Meemic Insurance Company.
Patty Knackstedt, an early childhood education teacher, nominated Edgebrook Elementary for the grant, according to a news release. Nearly 10,000 educators applied, and 15 winners were selected.
“Exceptional educators are always looking for new and creative ways to inspire their students and we want to make sure that financial concerns don’t stand in the way of the education experience,” Meemic Foundation Director Pamela Harlin said in a statement. “The goal of Meemic Foundation grants is to provide the resources necessary for teachers to create a dynamic learning environment for students that not only educates the children but inspires them as well.”
The Meemic Foundation provides grants across all sorts of educational settings, including public, private, parochial and charter schools as well as colleges and universities, according to the release. It has been offering financial assistance in the form of monthly and quarterly grants to schools and educators for more than 29 years.
