Former Algonquin Trustee Brian Dianis appointed to Village Board

A former Algonquin trustee is back on the Village Board after being appointed by Village President Debby Sosine and unanimously approved by the board Tuesday.

Brian Dianis served on the Village Board from 2005 through 2017, before losing his bid for reelection in the 2017 municipal election. He will fill out the remainder of the term for the seat vacated by Sosine when she became acting village president last year.

Dianis said his goal is to continue the work started from his previous time on the board. This includes downtown revitalization and economic development in the East Side, Downtown and Randall Road.

“I love the village of Algonquin, and I want to make sure that we keep it going in a great, positive direction,” Dianis said. “I think it’s one of the premier communities in the Fox River Valley. I want to keep giving people the opportunity to live work and play in the community.”

Dianis said his goal is to continue the work started from his previous time on the board. This includes downtown revitalization and economic development on the village’s east side, downtown and along Randall Road.

“We’re getting a good mix of businesses that are going to complement what the residents need down there,” he said.

Previously, Dianis volunteered with the local school district and was on a community awareness commission when he lived in Streamwood.

Sosine said Dianis, who currently works as a program manager for National General Insurance, served the village very well during his 12 years as a trustee and was also a great addition to Algonquin’s liquor commission.

“I needed someone to finish my term, and I thought immediately of Brian because of his dedicated service, and how he has served the village board already,” Sosine said. “It was a very easy thought process for me.”

After the death of former village president John Schmitt last year, Sosine gave up her trustee position to become the acting village president. She was reelected in an uncontested race in April.

Dianis will serve out the remainder of Sosine’s term, which ends in 2023.

“Brian’s just been awesome for the village for a while, and I’m excited to have him here for the next two years to help because we have a lot of things coming up,” Sosine said.
