A bicyclist was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening after being struck by an Algonquin Police Department squad car on Thursday afternoon.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded at 12:17 p.m. to an incident involving an Algonquin police car and a bicyclist at the intersection of Division Street and South Main Street in Algonquin, Sgt. Aimee Knop said in an email Saturday.
Knop said the bicyclist, a 71-year-old Schaumburg man, was headed south on the east sidewalk of South Main Street when he pedaled onto the road without stopping.
“As the bicyclist entered the roadway, he crashed with the squad car who had begun to make a right turn onto South Main Street,” Knop said.
The bicyclist, who was hit on his left leg, fell off the bike onto his shoulder. He was taken to Northwestern Huntley Hospital. No citations were issued, Knop said.
