Lake in the Hills employee recognized for ‘exceptional performance under adversity’

Promoted to village of Lake in the Hills’ administrative services manager, Peter D’Agostino “acted quickly to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic” and then mid-year, assumed the role of interim public works director.

It was this work that led to D’Agostino receiving the American Public Works Association’s Award for Exceptional Performance Under Adversity, the village said in a news release.

“This award is very highly deserved as the depth and complexity of the numerous challenges Peter faced cannot be understated,” Public Works Director Tom Migatz said in a statement. “Peter’s leadership, professionalism, and dedication to the organization have proven invaluable, and this recognition at the national level is a great celebration of his sincere commitment to our community.”

The village pointed to D’Agostino’s role in guiding capital projects toward completion, including three playground replacements, one skate park replacement and the Turtle Island improvement project. He is also credited with managing community amenities in a pandemic environment, guiding the department’s annual budget preparation and meeting the needs of village staff while ensuring the continuity of services throughout the shutdown.

D’Agostino originally was recognized by the Fox Valley branch of the American Public Works Association and later selected to receive the award at the national level, according to the release.

The Lake in the Hills Village Board formally recognized and congratulated D’Agostino at its May 13 meeting.
