The Algonquin Area Public Library is collecting recipes for a cookbook planned to mark the library district’s first 100 years in existence.

The plan is to have the cookbook published and available to the public before Christmas, a library spokesperson said. The deadline to submit a recipe is Nov. 30 and those sending theirs by traditional mail should have it in the post by Nov. 23 to make the deadline.

The holidays are a time when many will gather around the “dinner table to indulge in family conversation while enjoying cherished family recipes,” the library said in a news release.

The Centennial Community Cookbook will be a place where all those recipes can be shared, according to the library.

When complete, the cookbook will be made available online for free, and physical copies will be published and added to the library’s collection for check out, according to the release.

Physical copies also can be bought at cost. Prices will vary pending on the number of pages, pictures and books ordered, said Ryan Jana, the library’s public relations and marketing coordinator.

Books can be ordered while submitting a recipe, and for those looking to buy a copy without contributing a recipe, reach out to the library directly or email social@aapld.org to place an order, Jana said.

Recipes can be submitted at no contest. Full details on how to submit can be found on the library’s website, aapld.org, or by calling the library at 847-458-6060.
