Algonquin Area Public Library event to cover destruction of Ukrainian art

Art historian Konstantin Akinsha will join Algonquin Area Public Library and several partnering libraries to discuss the destruction taking place in Ukraine and the efforts of the European arts community to save Ukrainian masterpieces in a Zoom event from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22.

The destruction of art in Ukraine and efforts to save the pieces will be the focus of a virtual event Tuesday hosted by the Algonquin Area Public Library and other partnering libraries.

Art historian Konstantin Akinsha will discuss the destruction and the efforts of the European arts community to save Ukrainian masterpieces from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in a Zoom event.

In addition to the inestimable human tragedy, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has put the cultural heritage of the country in danger, according to a news release. The castles, museums, sculptures and painting currently being destroyed represent an irreplaceable legacy that is unique to the region and dates back to the Middle Ages.
