A man was evaluated for smoke inhalation during a fire Thursday morning in Richmond, the Richmond Township Fire Protection District said.
Crews responded at 5:31 a.m. Thursday to the 9200 block of Glacier Ridge Drive where they found heavy smoke coming from a one-story home, according to a news release.
The fire spread quickly into the attic space and into the adjacent bedrooms, the fire district said. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to allow super-heated smoke to escape.
The department also activated a MABAS Box Alarm, requesting additional manpower and water resources at the scene as well as additional resources to cover the fire station and any additional calls.
The Richmond Township Fire Protection District credited firefighters with isolating the fire to one side of the home, preventing a total loss of personal items even though the house is uninhabitable.
The fire was extinguished within 45 minutes, according to the release.
An adult man was evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation but was not taken to the hospital, the district said. No other injuries were reported.
The fire is thought to have begun in the basement before reaching the main floor, according to the release. It is not thought to be suspicious in nature but remains under investigation by the Richmond Township Fire Protection District.
