MT. MORRIS – The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed an auto repair shop that also served as a home shortly before midnight Sunday.
No one was injured in the fire at Lows Automotive, 311 E. Hitt St., which was called in at 11:43 p.m. and was out by 2:30 a.m. The two occupants were able to get out on their own, Mt. Morris Fire Chief Rob Hough said.

“When we arrived, there was heavy fire in the southwest corner venting from the building and heavy smoke,” Hough said. Firefighters also had to deal with freezing temperatures and snow that had fallen earlier in the evening.
Hough estimated the loss at around $75,000; no foul play is suspected, he said.
