Laci Meyer and Justin Myers recognized as District FFA Proficiency winners

Two Forreston High School students received awards at the District 1 FFA competition.

Laci Meyer a senior at Forreston High School was selected as the District FFA Proficiency Winner in Swine Production Entrepreneurship.

Justin Myers, a freshman, was selected as the District FFA Proficiency Winner in Diversified Crop Production Entrepreneurship.

Laci and Justin are members of the Forreston FFA Chapter of the Illinois Association FFA. Illinois FFA recognizes students in 47 different areas based on their work-based learning, also known as Supervised Agricultural Experiences or SAE.

FFA members who demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through record keeping, leadership, and scholastic achievement may be considered for this award. SAEs allow students to learn by doing by either owning and operating an agricultural business, working or serving an internship at an agriculture-based business or conducting an agriculture-based scientific experiment and reporting results.

Laci and Justin were selected as the District 1 winners by a committee of agriculture industry representatives and teachers knowledgeable in this work-based area.

Laci is the daughter of Adam and Lori Meyer of Leaf River.

Justin is the son of David and Gail Myers of Leaf River.

Receiving this honor made Laci and Justin eligible to compete in the State FFA Awards Selection process in Decatur on March 26,

Laci has been involved in the following other agriculture education and FFA activities: currently the chapter co-president, Section 1 Poultry CDE, and planning the plot dinner.

Justin has been involved in the following other agriculture education and FFA activities: Section 1 Greenhand workshop, Section 1 Poultry CDE, and the plot dinner.

Kelley Parks is the agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor at Forreston Jr./Sr. High

School.

Laci and Justin will receive plaques for their accomplishments. The plaques are made possible by gifts by individuals, businesses, corporations and organizations through the Illinois Foundation FFA.
