On the biggest stage in program history, Byron came out ready to roll Monday night at the Class 2A Sterling Supersectional. The Tigers earned their first-ever trip to the state finals, building a double-digit lead early and holding off every Chicago Latin surge for an 85-71 win.
The Byron Tigers won the 2A Supersectional in Sterling on Monday, March 4, 2024 when they beat Chicago Latin 85-71 to advance to the state finals this week in Champaign. Byron will play Benton at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday in the semifinals. The 2A championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Byron downed Port Byron (Riverdal) 70-51 at the 2A Mendota Sectional on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024 to advance to the sectional championship on Friday, March 1. Jack Hiveley led the Tigers with 21 points. Riverdale's leading scorer was Jake Willems with 19 points.
Morrison downed Oregon 59-52 in 2A regional action on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024 at the Blackhawk Center in Oregon. With the win, the Mustangs advance to the Prophetstown Regional to face Rock Falls on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Game time is 6 p.m. Chase Newman led Morrison with 13 points followed by DeShaun McQueen with 12. Oregon was led by Keaton Salsbury with 17 points and Jameson Caposey with 15 pts.
