Putnam County High School's Blake Baker (gold medal) and Matthews Schennum (bronze) competed in the Special Olympics Region A competition for Basketball Skills at Dixon High School on Saturday.

The Putnam County Pumas sixth-grade basketball team defeated Mendota Holy Cross 29-20 to capture the Oglesby Holy Family Tournament on Saturday, finishing undefeated.

Putnam County Junior High students competed in the Oglesby Elks Hoop Shoot On Sunday, Dec. 15. First-place winners advanced to the next round of competition with the runners-up serving as alternates.

Putnam County grad Maggie Richetta was one of four players from Sauk Valley Community College named to the Arrowhead All-Conference volleyball team for 2024.

The Pumas (22-2) advance to the Indian Creek Sectional to face Wethersfield (16-4) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The Putnam County Junior High Pumas defeated Peru Parkside 6-1 to capture the Class 2A Fieldcrest Regional championship on Saturday.

The Pumas will take a 19-2 record to the IESA 1A State Tournament to face Lexington (16-5) at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Champions Field in Bloomington.

The Marquette girls volleyball overcame a slow start to defeat Putnam County 25-23, 25-21 in a Tri-County Conference match at Bader Gym on Thursday.
