Sterling High School drama team wins group interpretation sectional title

STERLING- The Sterling High School drama team won a sectional championship for its group interpretation of “CODA.”

This will be the school’s 26th straight appearance in the Illinois High School Association state championship.

The group Interpretation will be giving a public performance of “CODA” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Sterling High School choir room, 1608 Fourth Ave., Sterling. The performance is free to the public and attendees can access the school by parking on Miller Road and using Door 20.

The play focuses on Ruby, a child of deaf parents (CODA), who is the only hearing person in her deaf family.

When her family’s fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music by wanting to attend the Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents.

The cast is Jenica Francis in the lead role of Ruby, Logan Moreno as Frank, Owen Gaffey as Leo, Henry Oberg as Miles, Samantha Feather as Jackie, and Anna Hutchison as Bernadetta. The cast also includes Sophia Shaw, Michelle Henderson, Brinley Francis, Kaidence Stroup, and Emma Stroup.
