Rock Falls 60, Eureka 53: The Rockets bounced back after Friday’s semifinals loss at the Colmone Classic to defeat the Hornets for third place. Kuitim Heald and Cole Mulniuk scored 13 points apiece to lead the Rockets while Ryken Howard added 11. Jack Blunier led the Hornets with 17 points.

“It was a great team victory, guys stepped up and filled their roles very well after a long, hard fought week at Hall,” Rock Falls coach Zach Sandrock said. “Cole Mulnix had a great game for us in the paint and knocked down some big shots at the end.”

Dixon 62, Alleman 40: Darius Harrington scored 29 points and Cullen Shanner added 19 more in a road win.

Amboy 72, LaMoille 29: Amboy’s Quinn Leffelman scored 27 points and hit eight 3-pointers, tying Chris Payne’s single-game school record for 3s in the win. Eddie Jones also scored 24 points for the Clippers.

Forreston Holiday Tournament

Newman 59, Orangeville 20: Evan Bushman led the Comets with 15 points on five 3-pointers and George Jungerman hit four 3s and scored 14 points.

Polo 69, Dakota 64: Gus Mumford scored 34 points and JT Stephenson had 25 in the win for Polo, which was seeded 15th in the tournament and Dakota was seeded second.

Oregon 56, Stockton 48: Olalde had 17 points and Salsbury had 16 in the Oregon win.

Warren 57, Forreston 43: Brendan Greenfield had 25 points for Forreston in the loss.

Eastland Holiday Tournament

Pecatonica 92, West Carroll 32: Class 1A’s Associated Press top-ranked Pecatonica cruised in their opening game of the tournament.

Eastland 69, Chicago Bowen 38: Second-ranked Eastland was dominant to open their home tournament in pool play as Parker Krogman led the team with 20 points, Adam Awender scored 15 and Peyton Spears had 12.

Eastland 67, Galena 49: Krogman had 20 points, Awender scored 19 and Spears had 15 for Eastland (6-0).

Oregon 45, Pearl City 43: At the Pearl City tournament, Aniyah Sarver led the Hawks with 14 points in the win.

East Dubuque 43, Oregon 38: Sarver had 11 points to lead Oregon in the loss.

Sterling Newman 87, Milledgeville 5: Five Comets scored in double figures as Newman did not surrender a point in the first half.

Sterling Newman 81, Forreston 10: Eight different Comets scored in the win, with five in double figures.

Polo 76, West Carroll 42: Carlee Grobe and Camrynn Jones (15 assists) each scored 24 points for Polo in the win. Emma Randekcer led West Carroll with 21 points.

Polo 51, Rock Falls 20: Jones continued her big day to lead Polo with 17 points and 14 assists. Laynie Mandrell added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Marcos. Miley Bickett had 12 for the Rockets.

Boys swimming

Sterling 4th at Freeport: Sterling tallied 174 points to take fourth at the Pretzel Invite, which was won by Boylan Catholic (223). Hononegah (194) was runner-up and Freeport (186) took third.

Sterling’s Conner Porter was runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:14.46), Denver Sandrock was second in the 100 freestyle (54.71) and Patrick Riley won the 100 backstroke (1:01.87).

Boys bowling

Dixon third, Oregon fifth at L-P: Naperville Central topped a competitive 12-team field with 6,016 pins, followed by Rockford East (5,969) and Dixon (5,956). LaSalle-Peru (5,939) was fourth and Oregon (5,917) was fifth as only 100 pins separated the top five.

Gavvin Surmo finished 4th overall for Oregon with a 1,315 series.

Girls bowling

Nagy leads Oregon: Oregon competed as individuals at the L-P invite, led by Savannah Nagy’s 930 series, good for 14th place.
