Oregon boys basketball beats Newman: Wednesday’s Sauk Valley roundup

Boys basketball

Oregon 60, Newman 50: Kade Girton scored a game-high 30 points for Oregon in the win at the Forreston Holiday Tournament. The Hawks advance to play Lena-Winslow on Friday for fifth place. George Jungerman had 16 points in the loss for the Comets, who will play for seventh.

Forreston 64, Milledgeville 51: Kade Erdmann and Brendan Greenfield each scored 17 points for the Cardinals in the win. Karter Livengood scored a game-high 25 points for the Missiles.

Lena-Winslow 62, Polo 37: Mercer Mumford had 12 points and Gus Mumford had 10 in the Polo loss.

Morrison 69, Mercer County 51: Asher Ernst scored a game-high 30 points for the Mustangs in the home win. Dawson Hepner added 13 points for Morrison.

Earlville 43, Amboy 37: Eddie Jones led the Clippers with 16 points and Quinn Leffelman scored 11 in the loss Tuesday.

Girls basketball

Rock Falls 42, Earlville 35: Miley Bickett scored 19 points and Elizabeth Lombardo had 14 in the Rockets' win.

Boys wrestling

Geneseo 55, Sterling 18: Sterling won four matches in the dual loss as Cael Lyons had the lone pin for the Golden Warriors at 120 pounds. Landon Heckman (major decision), Zyan Westbrook (MD) and Gage Tate (MD) all scored four points for Sterling.

Girls wrestling

Sterling 48, Freeport 30: Skyann Munz, Lillian Tunk, Jenavieve Echols, Noelani Ibarra and Alize Gomez had pins for Sterling in the win.

Boys bowling

Oregon 3,385, Harvard 2,732: The Hawks were led by Gavvin Surmo’s 677 series in the dual win to improve to 12-1.

Rock Island 3,370, Erie-Prophetstown 2,741: Brenden Boggs-Chavez led E-P with a 524 series and 201 game. Zayden Morris' 658 led Rock Island.

Girls bowling

Sterling 2,972, Rochelle 2,261: Sterling improved to 5-0 in duals as Sarah Doughty’s 629 series led the team.
