Girls basketball

Sterling 75, Naperville Central 66: Madison Austin (12 rebounds) and Joslynn James each scored 23 points, and Delali Amankwa had 16 in the nightcap of the Sterling Shootout. Nia Harris also had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win for the Golden Warriors (11-1).

Amboy 52, Rock Falls 28: Bella Yanos led Amboy with 15 points and Tyrah Vaessen had 12 in the win. Miley Bickett led Rock Falls with 17 points.

Byron 63, Oregon 35: Aniyah Sarver’s 10 points led the Hawks in the road loss.

Bureau Valley 52, Mendota 42: Libby Endress led the Storm with 18 points in the road win.

Boys basketball

Bettendorf 78, Sterling 47: The Golden Warriors (4-6) fell at the MercyOne Genesis Shootout at Augustana College in one of seven games pitting teams from Iowa against Illinois teams. Sterling was outscored 45-20 in the second half in the loss. Nico Battaglia led Sterling with 19 points and Maddux Osborn had 10.

Rock Falls 65, East Dubuque 53: Kuitim Heald led the Rockets (9-2) with 22 points, Ryken Howard had 16 and Garrett Wolf chipped in with 10 in the win.

Boys swimming

Sterling second at home invite: The DeKalb/Sycamore co-op won the five-team invite with 463 points as Sterling (256) was second, followed by La Salle-Peru (197), Rock Island (160) and Morrison (43).

Sterling had runner-up finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (Patrick Riley, Conner Porter, Lucas Porter, Colin Askegaard), 200 free relay (Askegaard, Denver Sandrock, Lucas Porter, Conner Porter) and the 400 free relay (Charles Johnson, James Boze, Sandrock, Riley).

Riley also took second in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM, and Conner Porter was second in the 500 free and 200 free.
