Fire damages Dixon residence, remains under investigation

An early morning fire damaged a home Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at 417 W. Second Street in Dixon. No one was injured in the blaze.

DIXON – No one was injured in a Friday morning fire that damaged a two-story multifamily residence in Dixon.

Dixon city firefighters were called at 2:03 a.m. to the 400 block of West Second Street for a report of a structure fire that was called in by a passerby.

According to a news release, fire crews arriving at the scene saw smoke showing from the roof area. Crews verified that all residents were out of the structure.

Firefighters found heavy fire in the attic space and were able to extinguish and contain the fire to the attic.

There were no injuries to any residents or first responders.

A second alarm also was issued to bring in other departments and agencies to assist. Assistance was provided by the Dixon Rural Fire Protection District; Dixon Police Department; Advance EMS; the Rock Falls Fire Department; the Sterling Fire Department; and firefighters from Polo, Mt. Morris and Amboy, according to the release.

All crews were clear of the scene at 5:17 a.m. Friday. The fire still is under investigation.
