Salvation Army to hold clothing giveaway and other events in January

DIXON – The Salvation Army of Freeport and Stephenson County will host several free events throughout January.

All events will occur at 106 W. Exchange St. in Freeport across from the courthouse. Events include:

  • Women’s Ministry from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. Visitors can enjoy Bible trivia, coloring and fellowship. Participants should enter through the red door on Van Buren Avenue.
  • Clothing and Coat Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 28, Jan. 30 and Feb. 1. Items include free coats, gloves, sweatshirts, hats, hoodies, boots, socks and other winter gear items. Visitors should enter through the red door on Van Buren Avenue.
  • Family Night at 5 p.m. Jan. 25. Participants will enjoy a spaghetti dinner and watch the 1955 Disney animated classic “Lady and the Tramp.” Visitors should enter through the chapel door.

The Salvation Army is a global Christian nonprofit providing social services; disaster relief; and community support programs, services and initiatives.

Services include emergency assistance for food, utilities and housing support. The organization also provides homelessness prevention services, youth programs, senior services and spiritual support. Other notable programs include the annual back-to-school and toy drives, the holiday Angel Tree program and the Red Kettle campaign.
