Dixon City Council to consider contract for $3.45M street resurfacing project

DIXON - The Dixon City Council on Tuesday will consider approving an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for street resurfacing within Dixon’s city limits.

The City Council meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at Dixon City Hall. The council will consider a resolution to allocate $146,190 in local funds for resurfacing and upgrades to traffic signals and sidewalks on U.S. Route 52 from West River Street to Route 38, on Route 26 from West Seventh Street to South Peoria Avenue and on Route 38 from U.S. Route 52 to just before Countryside Lane.

In total, the project is estimated to cost $3.45 million, with a majority of the cost being covered by federal funding, according to the agenda packet.

The work is being completed to ensure public safety, facilitate the free flow of traffic and meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines, according to the packet.

Other actions for consideration include:

  • A motion to contract Martin & Company for its low bid of $62,391.05 for the 2024 Dixon Drainage Improvements of the North Galena Storm Sewer Project.
  • A resolution to amend the fiscal 2025 city budget by increasing the amount allocated for the Dixon Police Department’s overtime pay by $50,000 and decreasing the line for full-time wages by $32,000 and part-time wages by $18,000. If approved, the council would not be allocating any additional funds to the budget, but instead would move around the funds already allocated to the police department.
  • A resolution to extend the existing agreement between the city and Allied Waste by five years with a new rate schedule. The agreement is the city’s contract for residential garbage collection services.
  • The reappointment of John M. Reining and appointment of William R. McWethy to the Dixon Airport Board for terms to end Dec. 31, 2027.
  • The appointment of Bill Bushman to the Veterans Memorial Commission for a term to end Sept. 30, 2026.

The full agenda for the upcoming meeting can be viewed on the city of Dixon’s website.

The council meets on the second floor of city hall, 121 W. Second St. in Dixon, in the Council Chambers. The meeting will be live streamed on the city of Dixon’s Facebook page.
