Dixon wins BNC title: The Dukes finished as Big Northern Conference champions for the sixth straight time after defeating Oregon 38-28 in dual action. Dixon has won 50 straight BNC matchups.
Oregon (24-4) also beat Rock Falls 45-33 in the triangular.
In the dual win over Oregon, Dixon’s Riley Paredes had a technical fall; Charlie Connors, Jayden Weidman, Adam Staples and Spencer Pleskovitch had pins; Daniel Fordham won a 7-0 decision, Will Howell had a 13-3 major decision and Dylan Bopes had a 10-3 decision in the victory.
Scoring pins for Oregon were Jackson Messenger and Landen Elder.
Girls basketball
Dixon 45, LaSalle-Peru 37: The Duchesses improved to 22-4 after the road win. Reese Dambman scored 15 points, Morgan Hargrave had 12 and Hallie Williamson scored 10 for Dixon.
Newman 45, Erie-Prophetstown 16: Gisselle Martin (13 points), Elaina Allen (12) and Brooklyn Smith (12) led a balanced Newman attack in the road win. Allen also had six assists in the win.
Morrison 51, Fulton 42: Morrison’s Camryn Veltrop scored a game-high 26 points as the Fillies won their fourth straight game since her return to the lineup. Kaylee Pruis added 13 points and Morrison was 19 of 22 from the free-throw line. Haley Smither led Morrison with 14 points.
Polo 44, Ashton-Franklin Center 17: Laynie Mandrell led Polo with 14 points to go with eight rebounds in the win. Camrynn Jones had seven points and eight assists for the Marcos. Audree Dorn led the Raiders with six points.
Eastland 56, Milledgeville 16: Olivia Klinefelter led Eastland (13-14, 9-1 NUIC South) with 17 points, McCullough scored 14 and Peterson had 12 in the win.
Girls bowling
Dixon 2,811, Dixon 2,384: The Duchesses improved to 10-3 in dual action as Madolynn Kirby’s 522 was the high series. Addison Cox rolled a 515 in the Dixon win.
Boys swimming
Sterling 96, Byron 59: Sterling’s Denver Sandrock dropped time in wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly and Conner Porter dropped time in a 100 free win.
Girls wrestling
LaSalle-Peru 41, Sterling 24: Nevaeh Delgado had a pin for Sterling at 125 pounds in the dual setback.
