SPRINGFIELD — State Sen. Li Arellano Jr., R-Dixon, and State Rep. Brad Fritts, R-Dixon, have been appointed to several key legislative committee roles.
Arellano has been appointed as the Republican spokesperson for the Illinois Senate’s Public Health Committee. In addition to his newly appointed leadership role, he will serve on six other Senate committees during his first term in office.
With each new general assembly comes new appointments and committee assignments.
“It’s an honor to be selected for this important role and to take a deeper dive into critical issues through the committee process,” Arellano said. “Committees play a vital role in shaping legislation. This is where we closely examine bills, ask important questions, and hear testimony from the public.”
Arellano, who represents the 37th Senate District and was sworn into his first term in office Jan. 8, will serve on the Senate’s Health and Human Services, Local Government, Pensions, Public Health as Minority spokesperson, State Government, Veterans Affairs, and Appropriations - Health and Human Services committees.
“As a former Mayor of Dixon, I’ve seen firsthand how local government functions and the challenges of our state’s pension system,” Arellano said. “As a veteran, I am especially honored to serve on the Veterans Affairs Committee, where I will work to support our state’s heroes and cut through the red tape that too often stands in their way.”
Arellano’s district includes all or parts of Bureau, DeKalb, Henry, LaSalle, Lee, Marshall, Ogle, Peoria, Rock Island, Stark, Whiteside, and Woodford counties.
Fritts appointed to six committees
Fritts has been appointed to serve on six committees for the 104th General Assembly: Appropriations: Personnel & Pensions Committee, Energy and Environment Committee, Judiciary – Civil Committee, Labor and Commerce Committee, Transportation: Rail Systems, Roads, and Bridges Committee, and Transportation: Vehicles and Safety Committee.
“I am honored to be appointed to serve on six committees for the upcoming General Assembly,” Fritts said. “These committees will allow me to continue fighting for better public policy to ensure fiscal responsibility, protect our communities, and support the hardworking men and women of Illinois.”
Fritts also has been named secretary of the House Republican Organization.
“I am humbled and honored to be named secretary of HRO,” Fritts said. “I look forward to working alongside Leader (Tony) McCombie, HRO Chair Elik, and the rest of the board as we recruit and support Republican candidates to bring balance back and common-sense governance to Illinois.”
“This new board is equipped with the experience and leadership we need to elect Republican House candidates and provide greater balance across the state,” McCombie said. “Their collective expertise in campaigning, candidate recruitment, and party-building will strengthen our ability to promote Republican values and win elections.”
The HRO board’s mission is to support Republican House candidates statewide and to promote candidates who are committed to fiscal responsibility, government accountability and economic growth for all Illinoisans.
Fritts represents the 74th House District, which includes most of Lee County and parts of Whiteside, Ogle, DeKalb and La Salle counties. It is his second term in the seat.
