AMBOY – Natalie Pratt, a senior, is Amboy High School’s student of the month for February.

She is the daughter of Katie Pratt and Andy Pratt, and she has a brother, Ethan Pratt.

What class do you find really engaging and why?: I love my agriculture classes. My agriculture teacher, Joseph Heavner, has been such an amazing educator for the last four years of high school. I’ve taken such a wide variety of classes with him, and the life skills that I have learned will stay with me forever. I can wire a light build, write a speech and identify soil samples. It’s crazy that I’ve learned all that in the same classroom.

What are your career and post-graduation plans? What school(s) or other instruction, travel or endeavors do you have planned?: I am enrolled at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to study agricultural education. After four years, I plan on becoming a high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisor.

What are your two favorite extracurricular, volunteer or community activities you participate in?: I love being a member of our FFA chapter. FFA has helped me grow so much as a person. I am currently serving as the Illinois FFA Section 2 president, and getting to interact with every member of our section has been the biggest blessing and the most amazing adventure I could have ever asked for. I also am so grateful for the family that the marching band has brought. Getting so close with every member of the band, spending Friday nights and Saturday afternoons laughing, talking and getting to perform just cannot help but bring the biggest smile to your face.

Please share a moment, group event or activity at school that was meaningful or memorable.: In my freshman year, the Conduct of Chapter Meetings Team that I was a part of won the state contest and drove to Indianapolis to compete in the national contest. Although we did not win, or even make it out of the second round, I will cherish those memories. All the members of that team have since gone their separate ways, and we are all about to graduate and start our lives, but I don’t think much can pass up being a freshman running around Indianapolis together.

What is your hope for the future?: I hope that people can learn to cheer for others authentically, be kind and recognize strength in difference.
