Sauk Valley fireworks displays run through the weekend

For the ambitiously patriotic among us, fireworks can be oohed at all three days this weekend. Many of the shows are accompanied by other festivities. Dixon’s, for instance, cap off its annual Petunia Festival, and Mount Carroll’s come after a day of summertime comfort food and a parade.

The festivities:

Sterling: 8:30-11:30 p.m. Friday on the Sterling/Rock Falls Riverfront. Set-up will be at the park off Wallace Street in Sterling; park anywhere in downtown area in public lots in Sterling or Rock Falls or in the McCormick Event Center parking lot across from Holiday Inn in Rock Falls.

Hooppole: dusk Friday at Hooppole Park, followed by live music by Lucky Cochran & The Persuaders.

Davis Junction: dusk Saturday at Community Park, 101 Lincoln Ave.; the movie “Tom & Jerry” will follow the fireworks; bring a chair or blanket; concessions will be sold.

Amboy: dusk Saturday at Sports Park on Appleton Avenue, with live music on East Avenue and Main Street.

• Mount Carroll: dusk Saturday at the West Carroll Middle School athletic field, 633 S. East St. The parade kicks off at 6 p.m. from the old school on South Main Street.

Savanna: dusk Saturday at West Carroll High School, 500 Cragmoor St.; parade at 6 p.m., route is north down down Third Street, turns on Division and heads South on Main Street to high school; kids activities, including bounce houses open till fireworks start. Concessions by the Moose Lodge.

Dixon: 9:30 p.m. Sunday downtown on the riverfront.

Prophetstown: dusk Sunday at Prophetstown State Park, Riverside Drive; fire department and Boy Scouts food stands open at 5 p.m., and there will be recorded music. Find Prophetstown Fireworks on Facebook for more.

Walnut: dusk Sunday, Walnut Park District, 403 Sunset Ave.; music, beer garden, pedal pull, a throwing, inflatables, bags tournament, Sunday; walnutdays.com for the full 3-day schedule.

• Mt. Morris: 9 p.m. Sunday, David L Rahn Junior High School, 105 W. Brayton Road.
