Rock Falls District 13 gets DG youth literacy grant

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – Rock Falls School District 13 is the recipient of a $2,500 youth literacy grant – one of several in Illinois provided by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

In all, Illinois teachers, libraries and nonprofits received $72,000 in grants from the foundation.

District 13 is a four-school district, including Riverdale Preschool Center, grades K-2 Dillon Elementary, grades 3-5 Merrill Elementary and grades 6-8 Rock Falls Middle School.

The announcement is part of a collective $4.5 million effort by Dollar General and the literacy foundation.

“At Dollar General we’re committed to being here for what matters most to the communities we call home,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief executive officer and Dollar General Literacy Foundation board member, in a news release. “The urgency to support childhood literacy has never been greater, and we are honored to support the teachers, school officials, library staff and a network of nonprofits working every day to ensure the next generation is able to build the skills necessary to thrive and achieve their ambitions.”
