ROCK FALLS — Local contributions and a matching grant resulted in $14,637.05 being raised this fall by an alliance of Sauk Valley Rotary clubs taking part in an effort to eradicate polio.

The six area Rotary clubs were Dixon, Rock Falls, Sterling Noon, SVCC Rotaract, Twin Cities Sunrise and Walnut. Fifty-one people from those groups took part in the sixth annual End Polio Now Walk on Oct. 2 at Centennial Park in Rock Falls. It was the sixth year of the event, which featured Mike Albert, Allen Prysucha, Andrea Cook, Meg franks and David Hellmich as speakers.

Donations from that day and contributions to Polio Plus over the six weeks put the local clubs’ fundraising at $4,879.05. The Gates Foundation contributed the rest.
