Area roundup: Sterling wrestlers defeat LaSalle-Peru at Musgrove Fieldhouse

The Sterling wrestling team won five matches by pin, one by major decision and three by forfeit on the way to a 52-30 win over LaSalle-Peru in a dual meet Wednesday night at Musgrove Fieldhouse.

The Golden Warriors got pins from Drew Kested at 145 pounds (1:22 over Noah Zebron), Isaiah Mendoza at 152 (4:56 over Walter Haage), Tommy Tate at 160 (1:18 over Justus Byrd), Noah Davis at 170 (1:11 over Jace Wallgren), and Alejandro Arellano at 285 (1:22 over Nik Belski).

At 138 pounds, Dylan Ottens beat Gunnar Skoog in a 9-0 major decision.

Polo 36, Morrison 28: The Marcos claimed four victories by forfeit and two by pin to edge the Mustangs in a dual meet.

At 126, Wyatt Doty pinned Karder White in 2:29, while at 195, Maddux Hayden pinned Cameron McDonnell in 2:28.

Picking up wins for Morrison were Camden Pruis at 132, who beat Lucas Nelson in a 14-4 major decision; Donny Reavy at 138, who pinned Clay Davis in 2:36; Logan Baker at 152, who defeated Nicholas Cain in a 10-0 major decision; Kayden White at 182, who defeated Wyatt Queckboerner 11-4; and Nathan Schaefer at 220, who pinned Blake Diehl in 3:06.

The Marcos defeated West Carroll 62-6 in a second dual. Bout results were unavailable.

Orion 33, Erie-Prophetstown 30: The Panthers were edged out by the host Chargers in a Three Rivers dual.

Wyatt Goossens (120 pounds) won a 4-2 decision in overtime, while Jacob Gibson (126) won 5-3, Jase Grunder (152) won 5-2, and Elijah Friedrichsen (285) won 6-1. E-P also received three foreits.

The Panthers also lost a TRAC dual against Sherrard, falling 44-33. Bout results were unavailable.

Boys basketball

Harvard 54, Oregon 33: The Hawks were outscored 17-0 in the first quarter and never recovered in a loss to the Hornets at the Blackhawk Center.

Myles Brincks led Harvard with 22 points, while Jovon Ratcliffe chipped in 15.

Evan James paced Oregon with nine points, and Kade Girton and Isaac Reber added eight each.

Forreston 47, Ashton-Franklin Center 45: The Cardinals led 26-25 at halftime and 39-36 through three quarters, and hung on for a narrow win over the Raiders in Ashton.

Cole Becker and Payton Encheff paced Forreston (6-12) with 12 points each, while Owen Greenfield chipped in nine and Tommy Appel added eight. Becker also had 13 rebounds.

Carson Rueff led AFC with a game-high 21 points.

Girls basketball

Durand 36, Forreston 30, OT: Olivia Robinson and Erica Nyen combined for 26 points to lift the Bulldogs over Cardinals in overtime.

Robinson scored a game-high 16 points, while Nyen added 10.

Brooke Boettner tallied 11 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and three assists to lead Forreston. Jenna Greenfield added nine points and three rebounds for the Cardinals.
