Area roundup: Rock Falls boys fall behind, can’t come back in Stillman Valley

Dixon boys, Newman girls both lose on the road; Amboy, Eastland, Polo girls all pick up NUIC South wins

The Rock Falls boys basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 58-50 Big Northern Conference loss in Stillman Valley on Friday night.

Booker Cross poured in 21 points to pace the Rockets (10-15, 2-5 BNC), and Ayden Goff hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. Chevy Bates also nailed two 3s and scored nine points for Rock Falls, which trailed 15-4 after the opening quarter, 27-19 at halftime, and 41-36 through three periods.

Evan Davidson had 21 points to lead Stillman, and Owen Dunseth added 15.

Rockford Christian 71, Dixon 62: The Dukes (12-10, 4-3) lost a Big Northern game on the road, as the Royal Lions pulled away after leading 36-33 at halftime.

North Boone 66, Oregon 51: The Vikings went on a 24-12 fourth-quarter run to close out a Big Northern win over the Hawks at the Blackhawk Center.

Oregon was led by Noah Johnson with 18 points, Ryan Harkness with 12 points, and Evan James with 10 points.

Amro Shammakh led North Boone with a game-high 20 points.

Monmouth-Roseville 57, Morrison 44: The Mustangs got double-digit scoring contributions from three players, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Titans in a Three Rivers West matchup at home.

Danny Mouw scored 14 points to lead Morrison, while Beau Brackemeyer and Alex Anderson added 10 points apiece.

Connor Thompson scored 19 points to pace Monmouth-Roseville.

Kewanee 62, Bureau Valley 58: Brady Clark and Niko Powe combined for 39 points to lift the Boilermakers over the visiting Storm in a Three Rivers East contest.

Clark scored 22 points, while Powe added 17 for Kewanee. Blaise Lewis chipped in 11 points for the Boilermakers.

Bureau Valley was led by Carter Salisbury’s 26 points, while and Layton Britt hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points.

Girls basketball

St. Bede 59, Newman 39: The Comets were outscored 30-14 in the second and third quarters in a Three Rivers East loss in Peru.

Ady Waldschmidt hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Newman (2-21, 0-10), and Shannon Kelly added 12 points and six rebounds. Madison Duhon chipped in four points and five rebounds for the Comets, who trailed just 13-12 after the opening quarter.

Ryann Stoudt finished with 15 points, and Lia Bosnich scored 14 to lead St. Bede. Leah Smudzinski added nine.

Amboy 48, Milledgeville 17: The Clippers built a 23-4 halftime lead and cruised to an NUIC South road win over the Missiles.

Leaders for Amboy were Maeve Larson with 13 points and Olivia Dinges with 10 points.

Adriana Miller paced Milledgeville with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Brooklyn Balsiger pulled down eight rebounds.

Polo 41, AFC 34: The Marcos outpaced the Raiders 24-16 in the second half to secure an NUIC South win.

Lindee Poper had 18 points, 12 rebounds and two assists to lead Polo, while Kadence Sheaffer added nine points, six rebounds and two assists, and Natalie Nelson pitched in eight points and three assists.

Taylor Jahn scored 22 points for AFC, while Alexis Schwarz added seven points.

Eastland 46, Forreston 38: The Cougars used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Cardinals in an NUIC South game in Lanark.

Chloe Sweitzer led the way for Eastland with 10 points to go with three rebounds and two assists, while Quinc Haverland, Addie Burkholder and Delana Erbsen added seven points apiece. Burkholder also had six rebounds and three steals, and Haverland and Erbsen pulled down four boards each. Sarah Kempel scored six points, while Annika Myre and Paige Joiner each hit a 3-pointer for the Cougars, with Myre adding five assists and three steals, and Joiner finishing with four assists and three rebounds.

Forreston was led by Brooke Boettner’s 12 points, five steals, three assists and two blocks. Rylee Broshous scored seven points for the Cardinals, while Jenna Greenfield added six points and four rebounds. Hailey Greenfield and Alaina Miller finished with five points apiece, and Hailey Greenfield chipped in two steals.

SM/RR 55, West Carroll 46: The Thunder were outscored 16-9 in the fourth quarter as Scales Mound/River Ridge pulled away for an NUIC West win in Savanna.

Tori Moshure scored 21 points, and Kylie Hill had 19 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals for West Carroll (14-14, 3-5), which led 11-6 after the opening quarter and 24-22 at halftime, before heading into the fourth down 39-37. Kendal Asay chipped in nine rebounds and seven steals for the Thunder.

Jaidyn Strang hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points for SM/RR, while Addison Albrecht added 12 points.
