After suffering a broken neck in a track meet accident that left him partially paralyzed on March 15, Rock Falls High School senior Dylan Wescott is making progress after multiple surgeries. He is rehabbing at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago.

Morrison sophomores Brady Anderson and Levi Milder led by example and played key roles on three relay wins at state, helping the Mustangs place fourth as a team. They are the Sauk Valley co-athletes of the year in boys track.

Morrison sophomore Brady Anderson, who anchored Morrison’s state championships in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays, and took fifth in the Class 1A 100-meter dash at the IHSA state track meet, is the Sauk Valley Newspapers Athlete of the Week in an online vote.

Newman's 4x800 relay team narrowly missed the 1A state record of 7:53.69, but still raced to a state championship Saturday at the IHSA State Meet hosted by Eastern Illinois University.

Sterling senior Dale Johnson, a five-time state track medalist, is set for the distance double and leads a large Golden Warrior contingent this weekend in Charleston. Meanwhile, Morrison has high hopes in the sprints and sprint relays. Here is Joshua Welge's state preview.

Aidan Wyzard and Dylan Hodges each won four events, while Eli Crome qualified in three to help lead Sycamore to a sectional title. Dale Johnson qualified in two distance events for Sterling, and 11 1,600 runners qualified.
