Sydnie Flaningam is Rock Falls High School's Student of the Month for January.

ROCK FALLS – Sydnie Flaningam, a senior, has been selected as Rock Falls High School’s Student of the Month for January.

She is the daughter of Trudie and David Flaningam.

What class do you find really engaging and why?: I find any art class, whether 2D or 3D, to be very engaging. Art classes allow me to use my hands in a fun way while giving me the creative freedom to do any project I want.

What are your career and post-graduation plans? What school(s) or other instruction, travel or endeavors do you have planned?: In the future, I want to be an early childhood educator, mainly focusing on preschool and kindergarten. I plan to go to Sauk Valley Community College right after high school.

What are your two favorite extracurricular, volunteer or community activities you participate in?: I enjoy participating in the Art Club, as we do lots of fun, hands-on crafts. The club has taught me how to work creatively with others to make beautiful artwork. I also enjoyed the education pathway classes, as they let me get real experience in a classroom, which will be very helpful for my future career as a teacher.

Please share a moment, group event or activity at school that was meaningful or memorable: I participated in the ISU Future Teacher conference, which was a very memorable group activity. The discussions were inspiring, and the entire experience was memorable.

What is your hope for the future?: I want to become a successful teacher who helps the younger generations in learning valuable skills.
