STERLING — Brinley Francis, a senior, has been named a January student of the month at Sterling High School.
She is the daughter of Dana and Darci Francis and has a sibling, Jenica Francis.
What class do you find really engaging and why?: The class I find really engaging is AP Psychology, which is taught by Taylor Jackson. She is so involved in teaching this subject, and always makes sure that none of her students fall behind. In this class, we do multiple group projects and watch movies or fun interactive videos that help us understand the material better. This class is especially interesting to me, as it correlates with nursing and has been helpful in bettering my knowledge in the field of healthcare. In this class, I sit beside some of my best friends and not a day goes by where we aren’t laughing or having fun and just creating an overall positive environment. They make that class 10 times better and it’s a class I look forward to each day.
What are your career and post-graduation plans? What school(s) or other instruction, travel or endeavors do you have planned?: My career and post-graduation plans include a career in nursing, more specifically neonatal nurse with a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
What are your two favorite extracurricular, volunteer or community activities you participate in?: My two favorite extracurricular actives that I participate in is the spring/summer musicals and madrigals. Theater has always been a huge part of my life and I have met some of my best friends through being in the theater program. I love being able to express myself on stage and making people happy with my performance. From being in madrigals, I have learned so much about music and how it genuinely builds connections and personal growth. I have never had so much passion for anything besides the arts and I am so grateful that I’ve had the chance to be a part of it during my time at SHS.
Please share a moment, group event or activity at school that was meaningful or memorable.: I would say being able to play the lead in my freshman year musical has been one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences. It helped me immensely in my self confidence that my directors believed in me and trusted me enough to withhold such an enormous task, and they are the reason I am involved in all-things theater today.
What is your hope for the future?: My hope for the future is that I am able to fulfill all go my goals in nursing while also staying involved in music, in any way I can. I want to be a positive role model for those around me in my workforce and I would love to make any sort of positive impact.
