5 Things To Do in Sauk Valley: Run for luck and a good claws

Is there some spring in your step? What better way to adjust to last week’s shift to daylight saving time than a fun run or visit a toy fair with outdoor antique tractor displays? There are still some indoor events on the calendar, a pub crawl and some live music. So lace up those shoes and have a good time getting out.

1 Put your running shoes on. Keep that St. Patrick’s celebration on the move by participating in the Lucky Dog 5K on Saturday. The starting line is 505 W Lynn Blvd. in Sterling. The race starts at 9 a.m. It costs $16 to enter. All runners get a long-sleeved shirt. This fun run is a fundraiser to hire a chipped timing company for the Paws and Claws 5K on Aug. 6. Online registration is at https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Sterling/LuckyDog5KFunRun

2 Shamrocked start. The eighth annual Paddy Hard is billed as northwest Illinois’ largest pub crawl. It starts at noon Saturday in downtown Savanna. Taking part are TnT’s Roundhouse, Savanna Moose Lodge, Manny’s Pizza, Hawg Dogs, Baggers, My Friends Place, Whiskey River, Greens and Ridge Runners.

3 Live music. The What Now?!?, a rock’n’roll band will be performing 9 p.m. Saturday at The Corner Tap in Rock Falls. Over at Starlight Theatre in Sterling, the alternative group Sugarpill will perform along with McCrae, Five AM, and Half Catholic starting at 8 p.m.

Toy vendor Kathy Obermeyer of Valparaiso, Ind., sells an item to a customer at the Sublette's annual antique tractor and toy show in an undated file photo.

4 Old-time toys. Sublette will hold its 40th annual Antique Tractor and Toy Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free shuttle service offered to view the toys in five buildings. Antique tractors will be on display outside. There will also be craft vendors, the fireman’s pancake breakfast Sunday morning and 4-H lunch stands.

5 Talkin’ jazz. A taping for Judy Carmichael’s NPR show “Jazz Inspired” will be 7:30 p.m., Friday at Dixon Theatre. The guest is mandolin player Don Stiernberg.
