STERLING — The Sterling City Council on Monday, Jan. 6, will add to the ranks of the city’s police and fire departments.
The council at its meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Sterling City Hall, will swear in two new police officers, Kolten Smith and Brandon Jagistch. Also to be sworn in are new firefighters Garrett Helfrich and Justin Kalina.
Actions for consideration include:
- Paying $353,985 to Landscape Structures for Riverfront Playground Equipment. The City Council on Aug. 7, 2023, approved a proposal from NuToys/Landscape Structures for playground equipment for Riverfront Park. The equipment has been delivered to Public Works and is in storage until the park is ready for placement in summer 2025, according to the agenda.
- Deciding whether to amend city code to increase the number of liquor licenses. According to the council’s meeting agenda, the city was approached by Edgar Xique, the owner of Primo’s Bar & Grill, seeking a liquor license. Primo’s Bar & Grill is located at 1711 W. Fourth St., the site formerly occupied by the Wagon Wheel. The Liquor Commission will review the request prior to the City Council meeting and make a recommendation to either approve or deny amending the city ordinance to accommodate the additional license.
The City Council meets on the first floor of Council Chambers, 212 Third Ave., Sterling.
