Dixon police: Sterling woman charged in Lee County with stealing more than $30,000

Melissa J. Swinton

DIXON – A. 57-year-old Sterling woman wanted in Lee County for stealing more than $30,000 from her employer turned herself in to Dixon police Monday afternoon, police and Lee County State’s Attorney Charley Boonstra said.

Melissa J. Swinton is charged with theft worth more than $10,000 but less that $100,000. She faces at least 3 to 7 years in prison, plus restitution, if convicted of embezzling from her Dixon employer, who called investigators after noticing that revenue did not match sales, Boonstra said.

Swinton posted bond Monday and was released. She has an initial appearance Feb. 17 in Lee County Court.
